MRL #061- How To "Network" Your Way To A $1,000,000+ Book

I’ll admit it.

I crap on networking a lot.

But, it’s for good reason.

I’ve seen too many Producers use it as a crutch not to cold prospect.

They try to “network” because it’s less rejection than cold prospecting…

Fall short of their validation target, and…

*cccrrrriiiiiccckkkk*

Off with their heads.

So, reflexively I rail against it.

Of course I could give a more nuanced answer to the question, but…

Speaking in absolutes wins way more followers online than a nuanced approach will…

So, I play the game.

Truth be told…

Networking can land you a bunch of business if you’re the gregarious type and don’t mind playing the long game.

Many a Producer has made their living networking.

There are countless resources you can go buy that will teach you how to network with “centers of influence” and broaden your biz owner horizons.

None of which we’ll discuss in this newsletter, however.

Because today I actually want to discuss another way to network…

One that no one in the industry talks about…

That will indeed help you open more doors…

Win more business…

And land you at the $1,000,000+ mark much faster.

The premise is simple.

“You are the average of the 5 Producers you spend the most time with.”

So spend time with better Producers!

The sooner you start “networking” with other Producers bigger and better than you…

The sooner you will see what’s actually possible…

Learn the tricks of the trade…

Raise your own standards…

And go write more business.

I’ve experienced it myself.

As soon as I ditched the “negative Nancy’s” in my office and starting pal’ing around with Micah, I started to experience way more success.

Any ABC firm will tell you the same thing.

They actually track the data…

2-3 years after they acquire a smaller office, the Producers at the legacy agency almost always start growing again.

Legacy guys and gals who had been stalled out for years, suddenly start writing more business.

Imagine that.

You raise the level of your peer group, and you start winning again.

Now, your commission is going to get cut in half, but that’s another story for another day.

The point is…

Start Networking With Other Growth-Minded Producers

If you’re at a smaller shop make friends with some of your peers on Linkedin and start a weekly call.

If you’re at a bigger firm but the guys in your office are a bunch of duds…

Find your agency’s nearest office that’s full of “killers” and ask to join their calls.

Where there’s a will there’s a way.

I love the Tony Robbins quote…

“Proximity Is Power”

Meaning… whom you spend your time with is who you become.

So, surround yourself with Producers who have already achieved your goals…

Producers who you admire…

Producers who are playing the game at a higher level than you…

And it’s just a matter of time before you follow in their footsteps.
